Mario Quintana
Mário Quintana is considered the greatest poet of the history of Rio Grande Do Sul and one of the greatests of Brazil.
Mário Quintana chose the Porto Alegre Residence Hotel as dwelling for the last years of his life. The hotel homages his memory by naming its Conference Room after him.
The love of Mário Quintana for Porto Alegre always was reflected in his work, as can be seen in the poem
"The Map":
THE MAP
I look at the city map
Like who examines
The anatomy of a body...
(I feel like it was my own body)
I feel a quaint pain
Because of the streets of Porto Alegre
Where I will never pass...
There are so many odd corners
So many nuances of walls
So many beautiful women
In the streets I never walked by
(And there is a charmed street
That not even in dreams I dreamed of...)
When I be, one of these days,
Dust or flying leaf
In the wind of late night,
I will be a little of the Invisible, delicious nothing
That makes your look
To seem more like
A soft, loving mystery look
City of my walking (Since now a so long walking)
And perhaps of my rest...
